It is worth noting that Hangzhou experiences two distinct rainy seasons. The first, known as the Plum Rain Season, occurs from late June to early July. During this period, the city receives consistent rainfall, contributing to the overall greenery and lushness of the surroundings.

The second rainy season in Hangzhou usually occurs in August and September. It brings heavy downpours and sometimes typhoons. However, the city is rarely hit directly by typhoons, experiencing instead strong winds and rainfall.

Spring bloom

Spring in Hangzhou is a truly enchanting time, spanning from March to May. Although it may be relatively short and transform into sizzling temperatures by late April or May, it fills the air with a palpable sense of joy and rejuvenation. Ah, the summer weather here… It’s quite a unique experience. From May-June to late September, we’re greeted with a mix of rain and sweltering heat. It can be a little challenging, but there’s something mesmerizing about this season. In July, temperatures soar to an average of 29 degrees C (84 F), and occasionally, it reaches over 40 degrees C. We understand that it can feel quite uncomfortable during those scorching days.

But let’s not forget the Meiyu or Plum Rain Season, which makes its grand entrance from the end of June to early July. And as we approach late August to September’s end, we must be prepared for occasional typhoons. The heavy winds and rains they bring can be overwhelming at times, but they remind us of the incredible power of nature.

On a brighter note, summer also presents us with an opportunity to witness nature’s marvels, such as the blooming lotuses on the West Lake. It’s truly a sight to behold, as these delicate flowers grace us with their exquisite beauty.

Autumn colors

Autumn gracefully unfolds in Hangzhou from October to early December, painting the city in vivid hues. The sky remains clear, and the air is filled with the delightful fragrance of osmanthus.

As summer transitions into autumn, the temperatures begin to cool and the rainfall becomes scarce. In September, the weather varies between a pleasant 20.9°C and 28.2°C, enticing visitors to enjoy outdoor activities. As November arrives, temperatures reach a comfortable range of 9.3°C to 17.3°C.
